Oklahoma City Waste Collection — Quick Facts
Oklahoma City Utilities serves over 220,000 single-family households with weekly curbside trash and every-other-week recycling. Every home receives two Big Blue trash carts (96-gallon each) and one Big Green recycling cart (96-gallon). Monthly bulky waste is included in the standard service rate. The My Trash Day tool at okc.gov/mytrashday shows your exact trash day, recycling week, and bulky waste date all in one place.
Big Blue Trash & Big Green Recycling — How It Works
Every OKC household receives two Big Blue trash carts (96-gallon) and one Big Green recycling cart (96-gallon). Trash is collected weekly; recycling is collected every other week on the same day. All carts must be at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on collection day and brought back by 10:00 p.m. the same day. Carts stay at the address when you move.
Big Blue Cart — Trash
2 carts per household. All trash must be bagged. Lid must close fully. Acceptable: household waste, food scraps, plastics, paper, cardboard, Styrofoam, plastic bags, textiles.
Weekly • ~$28.48/mo bundled (Nov 2025 rate)Big Green Cart — Recycling
1 cart per household. Items loose, never in bags. Empty, clean, dry. Glass IS accepted. Every other week on your regular trash day.
Biweekly • Included in service⏰ Set-Out Rules for All Carts
- Place carts at curb by 6:00 a.m. on collection day. Return by 10:00 p.m. same day.
- Leave 3 feet of space between carts and at least 5 feet from obstacles (mailboxes, trees, utility poles, other carts, bulky items).
- Carts must face the front of the street with lids opening toward the street.
- Do not place carts in the street or in a way that blocks sidewalks.
- All trash must be bagged inside the Big Blue cart. Loose, unbagged trash is not collected.
- Recyclables must be placed loose in the Big Green cart — never in plastic bags.
- Carts are assigned to the address, not the person. Leave them when moving; report missing or damaged carts through the My OKC Utilities app or by calling (405) 297-2833.

Oklahoma City Trash & Recycling Tips Every Resident Should Know
🏠 New to Oklahoma City?
Use okc.gov/mytrashday to find your exact trash day, recycling week, and bulky waste date all in one tool. Download the My OKC Utilities app for mobile access and missed pickup reports. 📦 Check Your Bulky Date After March 1, 2026
About 64,000 residents in OKC’s central corridor received new bulky waste dates starting March 1, 2026. If your address is between South I-240 and 122nd Street, between May Avenue and Bryant Avenue, your bulky collection day and/or week may have changed. Verify at okc.gov/mytrashday before setting out items — early set-out can result in a fine.
🚫 5 Common Mistakes OKC Residents Make
- Putting plastic bags, garden hoses, or Christmas lights in the Big Green cart — these “tanglers” jam machinery and are the #1 source of recycling contamination in OKC
- Setting out bulky items more than three days before the assigned date — a fine may be charged for early placement
- Not reporting a missed collection within two business days — after that window, a service return may not be guaranteed
- Assuming Veterans Day causes a delay — OKC has no Wednesday neighborhood routes, so Veterans Day (Nov 11, Wed) has no impact in 2026
- Not checking okc.gov/mytrashday after the March 2026 route changes — your bulky waste schedule may have changed
